Perast is a beautiful part of the UNESCO cultural heritage of Kotor with only about 350 inhabitants, but 19 churches and 18 palaces. The baroque architecture of the place represents one of the most beautiful units in the entire Adriatic. The little town of Perast is situated at the foot of St. Elijah Hill (873 m), opposite the narrow Verige strait, where the innermost bays of Risan and Kotor converge. The historical part of the city of Perast has no defensive walls instead it is defended by 9 defensive fortified towers, the most important of which is the tower of St. Luke. The city plan is quite simple. One long street leads through the city along the coast, and from it, staircases lead to higher parts. In the city center, there is a square (Pjaca) dominated by the church of St. Nicholas with its impressive bell tower 55 meters high. The church was never finished due to lack of money. Today, in the sacristies of the unfinished church there is a treasury and a museum.
If you look from Perast towards the Bay of Kotor, you will see two islands that seem to swim on the sea surface, acting unreal even to those who have seen them before, Our Lady of the Rocks and the island of St. George. Legend has it that on July 22, 1452, sailors, on a rock in the middle of the sea, found an icon of the Virgin Mary with a child. From that day on, it was a tradition for sailors, upon returning from a successful voyage, to lay stones along the coast of Our Lady of the Rocks. For centuries, this man-made island was created. Its foundations in the depths of the bay hide hundreds of worn-out sailing ships, which are filled with stone and submerged so that the island still stands above the water.
The Verige represents a strait named after the huge chains that rose from both sides so that pirates and all enemy ships could not enter and plunder the inner rich settlements of the Bay of Kotor.
The submarine tunnel is one of the largest military facilities of the former Yugoslavia. The length of the tunnel is 50 m, the width is 7 m. Nowadays there is no army in the facility. In the dive you can see the sea coral, sea sponges, octopuses, single crabs and other tenants of the prank of the world of the Adriatic. The middle depth of the tunnel is 8m, and around the exit from the tunnel the depth increases up to 30 m. Also in the submarine tunnel there is a whole complex of underground tunnels, which contained the technical equipment needed for the servicing and repair of submarines
The island of Lastavica is located at the entrance to the Bay of Kotor, and it's one of the favorite resorts of numerous tourists. On this stone island in 1853, The Austro-Hungarian General Lazar Mamula (1795-1878) built a fortress for which the island is now known as Mamula. The fortress, together with the fortifications of Arza on Lustica and Fort Prevlaka on Cape Oštro (Prevlaka), had important strategic importance in the defense of Boka. Interestingly, Mamula fortress was never attacked, but during both world wars it served as a prison known as "Kampo Mamula".
The Blue Cave is, perhaps the most beautiful, natural phenomenon on the Montenegrin coast. This natural creation is one of the largest in a series of caves on this peninsula and was formed at the foot of a 30-meter-high cliff, as a result of thousands of years of sea waves hitting the porous rocks of Lustica. The cave has two openings, smaller, on the south side and larger, 3 meters high and 15 meters wide, located on the southwest side. Through a larger opening, boats and smaller boats can enter the cave, which allows tourists to attend indescribable games of light and water inland. This natural hall, with a vault at 9 meters above the sea surface, represents a unique stage of the wonder of nature, which will leave breathless anyone who visits the Blue Cave. When the days are clear and sunny, through the openings of the cave, the sunlight enters its interior, and there it breaks on the surface of the water into indescribable shades of blue and blue, making the water and the walls of the cave get the color after which the cave was named. You will hardly be able to see such shades of blue anywhere in the world, and clean and warm water simply lures you to dive into this blue and become one with the indescribable ambiance of this natural hall. Whoever once bathes in the Blue Cave will always wear a piece of that indescribable blue color, as one of the most unforgettable memories of his life.
